Sassco line-up v O'Briens.

Plenty of dinosaurs were dug out for Sassco’s difficult game against O’Briens, a team organised by Steve Farrer (himself a rare dinosaur), and containing a lot of ex-Redhouse FC players.

For Sassco, Fatty Wardle last kicked a ball in anger for Sassco back in 2009, but convinced me that his stats with other teams were really good. Tyson Stokoe also popped up after some sporadic Summer appearances back in 2008. The rest of the team were regulars – sort of. Bilton came back in for this one and Curtis Newbold was a newbie.

It was McConville, Gourlay, Dixon, Muers, McDermont and Simpson filling the other spots.

Tactics were criticised, but essentiually the plan was to drop deep, be stubborn and try and get them on the break. Unfortunately, the first few goals saw players not being challenged. We conceded early, but Tyson then hit the crossbar. Eventually we conceded more in the opening half and it all went to pot.

Second saw a change demanded by Gourlay and Wardle with five in the middle, all who stood still when one of their players made it around 5-0 from a shot, unchallenged, outside the area. Eventually we did get one from Tyson, but the foot was off the pedal by then. Gourlay wasn’t a happy chappy in this game. Psychologically it could affect him for some time. However, it could have been much worse, when Steve “Teeb” Farrer came on late in the game. Luckily, he barely touched the ball as the game petered out. So at least a positive then.
