Anth Pearson’s rare double strike!

Steve Logan, Mickey Pearson, Mark Minnican (Downhill Groupie) and the predator, Anth Pearson after the late 2-2 draw with Sassco.

Unfortunately, Hendon Rovers have withdrawn from the competition due to lack of available players. This combined with Redhouse Stars leaving means that we are back down to seven teams. Both teams will remain in the table until a replacement is found (contact me if any one knows of any 5-a-side, 6-a-side or 7-a-side teams interested within Sunderland, Washington or Gateshead). If none are available, then the teams would be deleted from the table.

Downhill Impact 2 Sassco.co.uk 2
Mickey Pearson’s Downhill team took an early lead when Anth Pearson scored past Simpson. Sassco weathered an opening storm from Downhill and eventually, Mark Cresswell curled a shot beyond the large frame of Steve Lawson and past Logan in goal.

Second half saw both ‘keepers making excellent saves. Muers then poked in a goal to give Sassco the lead. They dominated from there and Logan kept the score down. At the other end, Simpson made a spectacular save in the dying minutes, but moments later, Anth Pearsons strong shot was saved, but looped into the back of the net for a 2-2 draw.

Redhouse Fusion 2 Town End Thunder 0
Town End Thunder played the Champions and suffered a first minute goal from Lewis. A much changed Fusion side controlled large parts of the game and eventually scored a second through Josh Lay. However, Lee Melia is banned from the competition until he pays a £5 fine and all the Fusion players (apart from Wooton) owe £2 before they are eligible to play again (Lewis, Kennedy, Lay, Melia and the goalkeeper).

WWC 3 Wear Consulting 1
Wear Consulting considered themselves “robbed” after a smash and grab saw WWC ride out as 3-1 winners. Craig Charlton scored a superb curled opener, but this was replied to by Chris Lawrence. Eventually, WWC broke clear and took the points.
